Hoosier Cowgirls~~~ Riding For A Cause

You'll notice that we are different in many ways, but one thing that we share is our love of a sport called barrel racing. Barrel racing is the cowgirl's equivalent to stock car racing. It is fast, exciting and if you're good at it you can make it look easy. Combine speed with team work and a sense of competition then spice it with a hint of danger and you have the ingredients of the cowgirls barrel racing. In order to capture a paycheck at these Rodeos, the cowgirl and her horse must be in absolute sync as they tour a cloverleaf pattern around the three barrels in the arena. It is one of the most popular events at the rodeo and with the increased popularity comes heftier purses and stiffer competition. The difference between heading home with some prize money and going empty handed can be as little as one hundredth of a second. Barrel racing is a timed event and looks deceptively simple with a horse and rider racing at breakneck speed in a cloverleaf pattern around three 55 gallon drums set in a triangle. It's actually a symphony of timing, coordination, movement, balance and style that bond the horse and rider into a single unit. Starting from the center alleyway, the horse and rider cross the scoreline starting the automatic timer. The two have the option of rounding the barrel to the left or right first before circling the opposite barrel then charging around the center barrel and heading back for the scoring line. When they cut the tight turns around the barrels, the horse and rider can be at a 45 degree angle and solid footing is essential. If the horse or rider knocks one of the drums over, a five second penalty is added to the cowgirl's time, basically assuring she'll finish out of the money. However, there is no penalty for touching a barrel that doesn't tip over and many riders wear shin guards to protect themselves from injury. Riders who don't wear protection sport the scars of multiple encounters with the steel drums around which their competitive life revolves.

We would all love to follow our mutual dream of competing at rodeos and traveling throughout 2006, possibly qualifying for the International Finals Rodeo. (The top 15 girls in the nation compete during this rodeo annually, along with the cowboys who have qualified in the other rodeo events.) Here is the catch and the reason for this website. Unlike other professional athletes, rodeo athletes must pay their own way to compete, either out of pocket or by way of sponsorships (we like to call them partnerships).

There are many expenses incurred to compete at rodeos, from horse feed, vet bills and bedding to entry fees and fuel for the trucks. And with fuel and gas prices as high as they are, that can get very expensive very fast. Rodeo competitors spend a lot of time on the road, whether it is in the truck driving or staying in their campers in between rodeos. (Most competitors pull horse trailers that have living quarters.) With all the traveling comes a lot of eating out. Competitors also rely heavily on their cellular phones when on the road to keep in touch with family back at home as well as scheduling their rodeo entries via phone.

In short, there are many needs that have to be accounted for before we can take off and chase our dreams. We are looking for Companies that are looking for new partnerships to better thier advertising funds. Our possibilites are endless with the advertisement capabilities we have throughout the entire year.

From Five different Towns, In One State.
and Five different Girls, with One Dream.

With Five different Horses and Five sets of Three.
Within those sets, though only for a moment,
We are truly set Free.

Yes in this game it is a race against the other,
but within our team we pray for one another.

More than just Cowgirls in a group of Five,
We now are friends with whom we can rely.

When things get tough we bow our heads to pray,
And with our Faith, we Will find our way.
